An Internship is a good opportunity to make your career, shape up your skills, build your networks and potentially become employed at a company after graduation. Here are some tips to make the most of your internship.
1. Meet your coworkers:
Try to have contact with each co-worker and get a sense of what they do. You never know when someone else in the company is doing something that might interest you later down the line.
2. Set your own goals:
It is always a good idea to sit with your supervisor and find out what you are expected to achieve every day. Find out your goals for internship and what you would like to learn. Discuss your interests with your supervisor, which you aim to attain and work for it.
3. Watch and Learn:
It is extremely important to understand the culture of the organization to understand and act accordingly. Seek guidance from your colleagues and peers. Read all organizations policies and procedures.
4. Be professional:
Be mindful of how you present yourself to your coworkers and supervisors. What is the appropriate attire for your workplace? And don’t forget the basics of common courtesy – be punctual, say thank you etc. Also, it is important to stay organized and keep a track of all your work and tasks.
5. Manage your time wisely:
Always complete projects on time, and when one task is done – ask for another. If you’re feeling overburdened with projects, talk to your supervisor about prioritizing your work.
6. Keep a track of your projects:
Make a list of all the projects you have worked on so as to discuss your progress and improve in your work.
7. Reflect your experience:
Take a feedback from your supervisor. If there’s no formal review process, ask your supervisor and coworkers for feedback on your performance so you can learn what you’ve done well and what areas need improvement. Reflect on the skills you’ve gained during your internship and update your resume with your experiences and accomplishments.
