16 Things that invariably exist in every Karan Johar Movie

Karan Johar is a Director, Producer, Celebrity TV show host and recently, an Actor. He has achieved a  great many things in life and continuously gives us entertaining films. But, all of his directed films  have some common things that he loves adding. Here’s listing them-

 1. A Loud/emotional/loving Punjabi Mother:

Every KJo movie has this Punjabi mother played by Kirron Kher or Jaya Bachchan or Farida Jalal respectively.

2. SRK:

He is the lead in most of KJo’s directorial movies except Student of the year but, he was the co-producer of that movie.

3. A sugar-coated Death which is a pivotal turning-point:

KJo loves his tragedy. The deaths of Rani’s character in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kajol’s son’s in My Name Is Khan, Siddharth Malhotra’s dadi’s death in SOTY, Alok Nath’s character’s in K3G, they all have significance in the story and contribute to a major turning point.

In typical dharma style, all songs of his movies are obscenely opulent.

KJo just can’t get enough of the age-old love triangle. When he gets bored of that angle, he adds n one more character in the love saga.

Be it the college in KKHH or the school in SOTY, these surrounding are very unrealistic and can’t possibly exist in the real world.

Even the poor characters in the movie wear designer clothes and accessories and the rich characters are filthy rich.

8. A hero who’s facing a major issue:

Usually SRK, the hero has to overcome great odds to find love. SRK’s character has lost his wife, had major fallout with family, had an affair, suffered from a terminal disease and travelled across US with mild Autism. Phew!

There is bound to be lots of tears and melodrama in every Karan Johar flick.

10. A glimpse of Homosexuality:

The films either have an effeminate character who is attracted to other men or there are humorous instances like the Kanta ben situation from Kal Ho Na Ho or perhaps the bold take in Bombay Talkies.

All the characters wear some phenomenal designer garments and accessories.

Though his ‘K’ obsession ended, there is a uniformity in his movie names.
Kuch Kuch Hota Hai- KKHH, Kabhie Khushi Kabhie Gham – K3G, Kal Ho Na Ho- KHNH, Kabhie Alvida Na Kehna- KANK, My Name Is Khan- MNIK, Student Of The Year-SOTY.

13. A party/disco/dance song:

This song is a must. There has to be a groovy song in the movie.

Karan Johar always puts in shades of patriotism in his movies. Be it My Name Is Khan, K3G, KHNH, all the movies have lead protagonists displaying national pride.
