Hindi films have a huge viewer ship both in India and abroad and thus are a massive tool for social awakening and awareness. We can hope this new beginning can bring focus on a long ignored subject of human disability.

1) Koi Mil Gaya (2003)

Koi mil gaya by Hrithik Roshan is portrayal of a mentally week child who is cured by an alien. Though the movie is not really based on the issue of disability it still brings the focus on difficulties of bringing up a weak child.

Black being the best examples of all time where a teacher and student relationship is the base of the learnings of a deaf, mute, blind girl and her struggle to find her guide again.

3) Taare Zameen Par (2007)

Taare Zameen Par by Aamir Khan is a social awareness film to make society aware of the symptoms and hidden problems of dyslexia. In this movie he has in between also pictured the mentally disabled children and their fight to embrace life in all honesty.

Rizwan Khan (Shahrukh Khan) is a Muslim from the Borivali section of Mumbai who suffers from Asperger’s Syndrome, a form of high-functioning Autism, prevents him from fully understanding the world around him and causes him to display behaviours that many would consider to be odd.

There has to be something really special about a movie with two of the lead characters disabled. One is Jhilmil (Priyanka) who is autistic and the other and the other Johnson (Ranbir Kapoor) an optimistic, street-wise, charming young man who was born deaf-mute to a Nepali couple in Darjeeling.
